Curatorial Statement for the SONDER exhibition
(Written by Bella Rose Wild)
SONDER ; The realization that each person is living a life as vivid and complex as your own.
Have you ever questioned whether you're the only person in the world that feels a certain way?
Or felt you couldn’t fit into a certain label or box?
That your ideas separate you from others around you?
In an age of algorithms, it can be easy to become entangled in a world of your own. Sonder is an exhibition seeking to investigate the core of identity. How do we form our individual perspectives? What factors and interactions lead us to express ourselves the way we do? What forms who you are, inspires you, grounds you, or drives you? How do these factors intersect? Ruminating on how an ecosystem is formed through specific parts creating a whole, this exhibit showcases students in their last year of college, sharing a reflection on both their sense of self, and the importance of connection in this discovery.
Can we relate to one another, while also understanding our strength in diversity?
Using a variety of media and ideas, these artworks come together to be displayed as one exhibit, unique in their individual complexities.
